Mission Statement
To introduce new American work by emerging American artists to the international stage.
After many years of dreaming and planning, Flying Solo! Presents was born. As a theatre director and maker, much of my work involves the development of new plays. I am privileged to work with many exciting and talented emerging artists whose work I find fresh and vibrant, funny and touching. I am attracted to plays that explore different visions of America and Americans that may not be prevalent in international news. In addition to theatre, I am also interested in promoting American dance, music and musicians.
My introduction to the world of fringe festivals came at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2001 when I had the pleasure of bringing a group of students to Scotland to study and create culminating in street performances during the Fringe. That experience inspired me to find a way to use my knowledge of the Fringe to support professional artists who might not have the opportunity to have their voices heard on the world stage for a variety of reasons. Flying Solo! Presents ultimately allows me to blend my directorial skills, production experience, with my love of nurturing and developing new work and supporting emerging artists.
After producing two solo shows live in Edinburgh in 2019, Flying Solo! Presents was fortunate to be invited to participate virtually with Online@theSpaceUK in 2020. I produced 6 shows online in August 2020 and 3 more new shows in Jan. 2021. The online platform allowed our work to be seen all over the globe and we reached 2000+ viewers. In 2021 Flying Solo! Presents shows were seen throughout the summer at the Brighton Fringe (online), the Denver Fringe Festival (Live!) and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe/Online@theSpaceUK. We returned to fully live performances in 2022 participating both the Denver Fringe Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Summer of 2023 finds us producing 6 shows, 2 at the Denver Fringe Festival, including the first dance centric production, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, premiering a new trilogy of solo shows played in rep alongside a cabaret/variety showcase of new work.
Follies! A Showcase of Bits and Bobs was introduced in 2022 at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe expanding the number of American artists Flying Solo! Presents has helped promote. There were two 1 hour showcases that featured a total of 13 talented performers from solo shows and cabaret singers, to dancers and musicians, to student groups and stand up comedians. Following that success, Follies will be back in 2023 with a whole new group of artists.
While Flying Solo! Presents is based in Golden, Colorado, USA we draw our company from all over the United States.
